NATO chief determined to move ahead with missile shield

NATO’s chief on Monday expressed the Western alliance’s determination to move ahead with building an operational missile defense system, following what he called its first successful comprehensive test.
After a NATO summit in Chicago later this month, “we will continue to expand the system toward full operational capability,” NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen wrote in an op-ed piece in The Wall Street Journal.
“The alliance has already developed an initial command-and-control system to link the US assets with sensors and interceptors provided by European allies,” Rasmussen pointed out.
“I expect more announcements in the months and years ahead.”
NATO leaders are hoping to declare the start of an “interim capability” for the missile shield at the summit in Chicago on May 20-21.
According to Rasmussen, this “interim capability” will provide the alliance with a limited but operationally meaningful and immediately available capability against a ballistic-missile threat.
“It is the first step, but a real step, toward providing full coverage for all NATO populations, territory and forces in Europe,” he wrote.
However, the alliance and Russia have failed to reach a compromise on the system, which Russia fears would thwart its nuclear deterrent despite NATO assurances that it is aimed at Iran and other threats. …

Location of sites where licenses have been granted for the use of drones within the U.S.
The US has been forced to reveal the location of 63 secret bases used to conduct aerial drone flights for domestic spying operations.
A lawsuit has forced the FAA to reveal the location of 63 Secret Drone bases located inside the United States some of which will be the starting point for a massive deployment of airborne robots flying over the United States for spying on citizens which will eventually conduct targeted killings across the country.
While the information released shows an alarming number of bases being used for military and local law enforcement drones, perhaps the most startling revelation is that the United States is allowing Canadian Border Patrol Drones to operate across the Canadian border.
Odds are that the are many more drone bases inside the United States whose locations have been kept secret for various national security reasons and the lawsuit only forced the government to release the names and locations of permitted US drone operators. …

NATO missile shield has potential as first strike system

I Spy Dactylorhiza at the US Base at Menwith Hill
“I took half an hour off from this week’s Tuseday Night Demo at the Menwith Hill Spy Base (www.caab.org.uk) to look at the dactylorhiza on Willow Carr Corner. The site has a wide range of forms in colour and shape. The shapes vary from strongly tri-lobed (Dact 5) (the local name for these is Crow’s Foot Orchid.) To ones where the lobes are hard to see (Dact 3). My favourite of the colour forms is Dact 2.
“Sadly the light was rather poor for photography… but I’ll be back on Monday (July 4th… Independance FROM America demo) and if Dact 2 still looks as good I’ll mark it for seed collection.” …
